Skills for Disagreeing Better
In partnership with the NCC and Braver Angels
Sunday, September 14
2:00pm - 4:30pm
Northbrook Public Library
Pollak Room AB - First FloorJoin us to learn skills for communicating differences and finding common ground.
We often lack the skills for listening carefully, looking for common ground, and sharing our perspectives in ways that connect rather than create more misunderstanding.
This workshop is about building the skills to have better, more respectful conversations—especially with people whose perspectives differ from your own. By learning to listen more openly and express ourselves more clearly, we can find areas of connection without ignoring real differences.
Goals:
- Gain understanding on what matters most to your neighbors who see things differently.
- Improve your ability to listen in ways that help others feel heard and respected
- Practice sharing your own views so they connect – even when there is disagreement.
Schedule:
- Introduction to Braver Angels: 2-2:30
- Skills for Disagreeing Better Workshop 2:30-4
- Q&A Session 4-4:30
This is a joint partnership between Village of Northbrook Community Commission, Northbrook Public Library, and Braver Angels.
This workshop will be recorded for the purpose of gathering documentary footage on Braver Angels by WTTW Channel 11 as part of the digital documentary series "Firsthand".
