Robert Redford stars as The Great Waldo Pepper, a young pilot back from World War I, barnstorming his way across the Midwest. Taking on rival after rival, Waldo meets his match in Axel (Bo Svenson), an air-show promoter. Together, with acrobatic Mary Beth (Susan Sarandon), they take air showmanship to great heights. Eventually landing in Hollywood as a stunt pilot, Waldo finally meets up with the legendary German pilot Ernst Kessler (Bo Brundin) leading to a climatic airborne fight to the finish. Directed by George Roy Hill (The Sting), The Great Waldo Pepper is a high-flying adventure that showcases the pioneering days of aviation.
