Northbrook Writes: From Premise to Promise with Vu Tran
Virtual
Monday, June 08
7:00pm - 8:30pm
Northbrook Public Library
Zoom Room 2 - Fiction & MediaAuthor Vu Tran demonstrates how to give a more purposeful shape to your fiction writing project.
At some point in a fiction writing project, whether at the start or halfway through, it can be helpful to step back, consider what we have, and give it a more purposeful shape that can illuminate and direct all the promise in the material. This involves formulating a premise, a clarifying distillation of the project’s most interesting and important aspects, which forces us to ask crucial questions about its narrative design, its most valuable character and their desires, its central conflict and central dramatic question, etc. We’ll look at all the steps of this process, which ultimately requires an examination of ourselves and the 'essential something' that we want to express about who we are as a writer and a person in the world.
This workshop is in partnership with StoryStudio Chicago. This program will be held virtually on Zoom.
