Founded in 1983, Maxwell Street Klezmer Band preserves and innovates with the traditional music of Eastern European immigrants which merged with American jazz and swing of the 1920s-1930s and with the Yiddish theater to create the early American klezmer sound. Maxwell Street has played at Carnegie Hall, toured Europe, and provided the celebratory soundtrack for Chicagoland’s simchas for over four decades.
