Beavers: Ecosystem Engineers

Learn about the fascinating world of the beaver, their dam-building abilities, and how beavers and humans can work together for a healthier environment that meets the needs of both our species.

Beavers are ecosystem engineers! The Illinois Beaver Alliance will describe how these clever animals improve water quality, create habitat for fish, birds, amphibians, and other mammals, and how they increase flood water storage capacity. We'll also learn how human-beaver conflicts can be resolved nonlethally.
