On February 1st, 1960, four Black college students sparked a movement by staging a sit-in at the Woolworth's lunch counter in Greensboro, NC, challenging the long-standing Jim Crow segregation laws. Van Gilmer, a student at North Carolina A&T State University during this historic event, continued the fight for civil rights alongside many others, contributing to the desegregation of public spaces. In this presentation, Gilmer will recount his role in this transformative period of American history, offering insights into the courage and determination that fueled the movement for equality.
